• Road work begins Oct. 5 in Athens and continues through 2026 (local3news.com) — Athens drivers should prepare for significant road work on Old Riceville Road at West Madison Avenue and Rocky Mt. Road starting October 5, including a new traffic signal and intermittent lane closures. Trucks with trailers will face restrictions near the railroad tracks, and city officials urge using alternate routes like the Dennis Street overpass and driving cautiously through the work zone.
• Meigs Middle softball still alive in East Tennessee Fall State Tournament (dailypostathenian.com) — Meigs Middle's softball team is battling through the East Tennessee Fall State Tournament at Athens Regional Park, with the championship set for Thursday at McMinn County High School. After a dominant win over Jefferson County and a tight loss to Maryville, the Lady Tigers faced another elimination matchup with Rhea Middle on Tuesday to keep their season alive in Athens.
