Today's riddle: Why did the man leave his watch in the bank? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Chattanooga gas prices rise 17 cents (wdef.com) — Drivers in Chattanooga are paying an average of $3.52 per gallon this week, after local gas prices jumped more than 17 cents in just seven days. While prices here remain slightly below the national average, they're still nearly a dollar higher than a year ago, with global refinery disruptions and a key shipping strait closure keeping upward pressure on fuel costs.
2. Rock City faces neighbors at public listening session on proposed Lookout Mountain gondola (newschannel9.com) — Rock City is pressing ahead with its proposed gondola linking Chattanooga Valley to Lookout Mountain, even after the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission rejected a related zoning change. At a packed listening session, nearby residents raised concerns about traffic, neighborhood disruption, and more tourists on local streets, while Rock City argued the gondola could cut car congestion and pledged safety and environmental reviews.
3. What's Right With Our Schools, BlueHorizon Workforce Program (wdef.com) — Chattanooga-area students are getting paid to earn an accelerated associate degree through the BlueHorizon program, which partners Chattanooga State with BlueCross to train healthcare customer service workers. Focused on Hamilton County schools and recent local graduates, the yearlong effort blends college classes, paid work, and leadership development to create clear career paths without leaving the region.
4. Trial opens for Chattanooga man accused of ex-girlfriend's murder (timesfreepress.com) — Jurors in Chattanooga are hearing opening statements in the trial of Lawrence Goodine, who is accused in the 2023 death of longtime local resident and community volunteer Kara Akins. Prosecutors describe video of an encounter on a Chattanooga street and autopsy findings, while the defense questions early investigative work and missing evidence as the case unfolds in Hamilton County Criminal Court.
