1. UTC highlights workforce, research partnerships at Tennessee Governor's Conference (utc.edu) — State and local leaders just wrapped up the Tennessee Governor's Conference at the Chattanooga Convention Center, where UTC showcased its role in building the region's future workforce. From quantum research with EPB to autonomous vehicle and nursing programs, UTC leaders emphasized how Chattanooga-based partnerships are helping attract businesses, support first-generation students, and shape higher-paying career paths for local residents.
   

2. 1886 Challenge: One quarter down, thousands of hours of impact (utc.edu) — UTC students, staff, and alumni have already logged more than 7,298 volunteer hours toward the university's 18,860-hour 1886 Challenge, much of it right here in Chattanooga. From the Chattanooga Area Food Bank to Green Steps cleanups and Hamilton County Schools support, the effort is channeling campus energy into visible service projects that benefit local families and neighborhoods.
   

3. Chattanooga closes South Chickamauga Creek Greenway downstream amid sewer overflow (newschannel9.com) — Recreation along South Chickamauga Creek in Chattanooga is temporarily shut down downstream of the Greenway pedestrian bridge, and access to the Tennessee River is restricted while crews fix a sanitary sewer overflow. City wastewater staff are on-site clearing terrain, with full infrastructure repairs scheduled to begin October 5 and the closures lasting until water quality is confirmed safe again.
   

4. Tyner beats Chatt Prep with career night from D'Aerion McNealy (timesfreepress.com) — Tyner's 27-12 win over Chattanooga Prep in a key Region 3-3A matchup featured a breakout performance from running back D'Aerion McNealy, who scored three touchdowns and tallied 166 yards. The Chattanooga-area game also highlighted Tyner's strong defensive front and the Sentinels' gritty scoring drives, giving local fans plenty to talk about as region play heats up.
