1. Chattanooga IDB grants extension to developer to avoid default on 'The Bend' project (newschannel9.com) — Chattanooga's Industrial Development Board has given developer Jimmy White until early January to answer questions and avoid default on the massive Bend riverfront project, which includes housing, a marina and a 12,000-seat amphitheater. The extension keeps public tax agreements, affordable housing plans, and funding for public housing and education in play while investors sort out ownership changes.
2. Partnership Brings Quantum Education to Hamilton County Schools (govtech.com) — Hamilton County Schools students, from kindergarten through high school, are piloting a new quantum education curriculum created by Chattanooga-based Thinking Media and the Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative. The program ties into EPB's new $22 million quantum computer and aims to prepare local kids for future high-tech jobs, while still aligning with Tennessee's existing math and science standards.
3. UTC Sets 2,500-Donor Goal For Mocs Give Day Oct. 6 (chattanoogan.com) — UTC is rallying alumni, students, staff, and friends on Tuesday's Mocs Give Day to reach 2,500 donors in 24 hours, supporting scholarships, academics, athletics, and more. One featured challenge backs Lucky, UTC's new K‑9 in training, with a $100,000 campus safety gift unlocked when 250 donors support the K‑9 Safety Fund, benefiting both the university and Chattanooga community.
4. Caught on camera: Truck driver recounts moment he was hit on side of I-24 in Chattanooga (newschannel9.com) — A tow truck driver is recovering from two broken legs after a car struck him while he worked on the shoulder of I-24 near mile marker 181 in Chattanooga on October 1. His dash cam captured the impact, and Chattanooga Police are using the crash to remind drivers that Tennessee's move over law protects tow trucks and other service vehicles, not just police and fire.
5. Helping patients while advancing future of healthcare: October Nurse of the Month explains need for medical research (local3news.com) — Chattanooga Medical Research nurse and clinical research coordinator Viviana Hargis is being honored as Local 3's October Nurse of the Month for her work guiding patients through clinical trials.
