1. Chattanooga businesses seeing resurgence from Walnut Street Bridge reopening (timesfreepress.com) — With the Walnut Street Bridge finally reopened, Chattanooga pedestrians are flooding back across the span and pumping fresh life into North Shore shops, galleries, and eateries. Business owners on Frazier Avenue and near the Tennessee Aquarium describe holiday-level crowds, rehiring staff, and renewed optimism after 18 months of reduced foot traffic and cut hours during the bridge's restoration.
2. Houston Museum of Decorative Arts to reopen after $4M renovation (timesfreepress.com) — Chattanooga's Houston Museum of Decorative Arts will reopen this November in Bluff View after a $4 million renovation that added elevators, ADA-accessible restrooms, and refreshed galleries. Residents can celebrate at a Nov. 14 event with the Chattanooga Symphony and see newly displayed pieces from Anna Safley Houston's vast decorative arts collection in the restored 1892 High Street home.
3. Enter the Quantum Realm — Our Tennessee (tennessee.edu) — UTC's growing Quantum Center is positioning Chattanooga as a national testbed for cutting-edge quantum networking, research, and workforce training, closely tied to EPB's commercial quantum network. Local students, companies, and K-12 programs are already tapping into new opportunities, while broader University of Tennessee partnerships aim to bring quantum-powered advances in logistics, healthcare, and cybersecurity to Chattanooga and the rest of the state.
4. Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative Graduates First Quantum Ready Cohort (thequantuminsider.com) — Chattanooga's growing quantum technology ecosystem just marked a milestone as the Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative graduated 17 professionals from its first 12-week Quantum Ready program, supported by a grant to UTC. Participants from employers like EPB, CARTA, TVA, Unum, and BlueCross return with new skills to explore quantum computing, networking, and sensing applications that could benefit businesses across Chattanooga and Tennessee.
5. Family, friends and UTC community honor Chancellor Emeritus Fred Obear (utc.edu) — UTC and Chattanooga residents recently gathered on campus to celebrate the life of former Chancellor Fred Obear, who led the university through major enrollment growth and academic expansion. The remembrance highlights his efforts to strengthen UTC's programs, attract out-of-state students, support athletics, and stay active in Chattanooga civic life through Rotary and local nonprofits, leaving a lasting mark on the community.
