1. Property tax relief program up for JC commission vote (johnsoncitypress.com) β Johnson City leaders are set to vote Thursday on a local property tax relief match for low-income seniors, disabled residents, and disabled veterans, potentially boosting savings beyond the state program. Commissioners will also consider a $7.2 million HVAC upgrade for Mountainview Elementary and Indian Trail Middle, funded through the school system, at their 6 p.m. meeting in the municipal and safety building.

2. NET home prices up, sales down (elizabethton.com) β New-home prices across the Tri-Cities are up while July sales fell, and Johnson City logged 11 closings compared with 22 a year earlier. The median new-home price regionwide hit about $366,000, with many buyers negotiating below asking. Most new builds now come with HOAs, and price cuts and discounts are becoming more common for local shoppers.

3. Joyce 'Joy' Belt (wgrv.com) β Family and friends in our region are mourning Joyce "Joy" Belt of Limestone, who passed away Tuesday at Johnson City Medical Center at age 83. Visitation is Friday evening at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow and interment Saturday morning at Liberty Cemetery.

4. 2 cyclists killed, 7 injured after team struck by vehicle in Tennessee (miamiherald.com) β A Milligan University cycling team training ride ended in tragedy just east of Johnson City when a vehicle struck 11 riders, killing two students and injuring seven others. The injured were taken to Johnson City Medical Center, as officials pursue vehicular homicide and aggravated assault charges against the driver while the investigation continues.
