Today's riddle: What is full of holes but still holds water? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. New ETSU Parking App available (easttennessean.com) — Parking around ETSU's Johnson City campus should get easier thanks to a new ETSU Parking app that crowdsources real-time space availability and guides users directly to open lots. The app can save your parking spot, warn if you're in a faculty space, and send alerts about campus-wide parking changes. Students and staff are encouraged to use it and submit feedback as features expand.
2. Johnson City establishes local property tax relief program (johnsoncitypress.com) — Johnson City has approved a new local property tax relief program that will match the state's existing relief for eligible low-income elderly, disabled, and disabled veteran homeowners. Nearly 1,000 Johnson City residents already qualify under the state program, and city leaders plan outreach so more homeowners can apply before the 2026 relief amount is set this fall.
3. Voices in Research: GPSA Hosts Cross-Disciplinary Panel on Mental Health and Addiction in Appalachia (easttennessean.com) — East Tennessee State University in Johnson City is hosting a free, public panel on Sept. 15 exploring mental health and addiction across Appalachia, with storytellers and graduate researchers sharing local experiences and findings. The noon event at the Culp Student Center Forum is designed to be accessible to residents without technical backgrounds. Organizers hope it sparks ongoing conversations that connect campus research with community needs.
4. Johnson City 21-year-old dies after Kingsport motorcycle crash (johnsoncitypress.com) — A 21-year-old Johnson City motorcyclist died after a crash in Kingsport, where police say he became unseated from his bike and was struck by a car.
