Local students and footage describe a mix of cheers and some boos, countering national reports that he was "loudly booed," and highlighting how politics briefly intersected with a major Knoxville sports moment.

Leaders say the Quantum Pathfinder initiative and Knoxville Quantum Accelerator aim to position East Tennessee as a national hub for quantum innovation, research jobs, and workforce development.

3. First woman to be executed in Tennessee in 200 years says she has 'kinship with Lindsay Clancy' (themirror.com) — Knoxville is again at the center of national attention as Christa Pike, who murdered classmate Colleen Slemmer in a secluded area of the University of Tennessee Agriculture campus in 1995, faces execution Wednesday. Now 50, Pike compares herself to accused child‑killer Lindsay Clancy while her lawyers pursue a last‑minute Supreme Court appeal after Governor Bill Lee refused clemency.

4. TVA produces record energy for homes during September's heatwave (wbir.com) — Knoxville-based TVA says this September's extreme heat drove record electricity demand, with more than 30,000 megawatts used on 17 days and an all-time peak on September 3. Officials stress the grid held up, share thermostat tips to trim bills, and explain how they're already winterizing plants to keep power reliable when cold weather hits East Tennessee.

5. Starbucks closing 250 stores, including one in Middle Tennessee (tennessean.com subscription) — Starbucks is closing about 250 North American stores this week, but so far none of the announced Tennessee closures are in Knoxville, where 31 locations continue to operate.
