1. One Knoxville teen shot, another charged with reckless homicide (knoxnews.com) — Knoxville residents are grappling with the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy at a Juniper Drive home, where police say a 15-year-old unintentionally fired a gun and now faces a reckless homicide charge. The Knoxville Police Department is investigating the firearm's origin, the homeowner is cooperating, and state law has triggered a referral to the Department of Children's Services.
2. Spoiled food tossed, bug found during inspection at Knoxville food truck (wate.com) — A Knoxville food truck on Western Avenue, La Pequenita Mobile Unit, received a failing health inspection score of 68 after spoiled food, insects, and a lack of running water for dishwashing led to a temporary closure. Several other Knoxville restaurants, including McAlister's Deli and Gus's Fried Chicken, earned near-perfect or perfect scores. Inspectors urge diners to report unresolved food safety concerns to the health department.
3. City of Knoxville seeks public input on future of old safety building site (wvlt.tv) — Knoxville officials want your ideas for redeveloping the former public safety building site downtown next to the Civic Coliseum, and they're gathering feedback through meetings and an online survey. Many residents are pushing for mixed-use development with housing, restaurants, retail, and open space that honors the site's history. The next public meeting is Oct. 12 at Cal Johnson Recreation Center.
4. Morning Pointe celebrates senior talent while supporting future caregivers (knoxtntoday.com) — Knoxville seniors will take the stage at the historic Bijou Theatre on November 10 for the Seniors Got Talent showcase, raising money for scholarships that support future caregivers. With auditions already held in Knoxville-area Morning Pointe communities, the event offers residents a chance to cheer on local performers 60 and older while backing education and caregiver programs that serve East Tennessee families.
5. 'Hand + Hue: Echoes of Impressionism' Opens Nov. 6 at Lilienthal Gallery (insideofknoxville.com) — Knoxville art lovers can step into an Impressionism-inspired evening when Lilienthal Gallery opens its Hand + Hue: Echoes of Impressionism exhibition on November 6 from 5–8 p.m. at 23 Emory Place. The reception features international artists, a 6:30 p.m. gallery talk, and an invitation to dress in floral, painterly attire for a colorful neighborhood night out.
