• Built to last: Alumnus Stephen Shankles transforms a passion for woodworking into a gift to the College that shaped him (thedailytimes.com) — A Maryville College graduate has turned a chance visit to a Townsend gallery into a thriving woodworking career, recently crafting custom bookcases for the college's Center for Campus Ministry. Living just off Wilkinson Pike near campus, he's using reclaimed campus materials and local trees to create meaningful, story-rich pieces that students and staff now use every day.
• Blount County Restaurant Health Scores for week ending Sept. 4 (thedailytimes.com) — If you eat or have kids in school around Maryville, several local cafeterias, child care kitchens, and restaurants just received mostly high health scores, with a few minor issues noted. From Sonic on Foothills Mall Drive to John Sevier Elementary and local child care centers, inspectors flagged mainly cleanliness and maintenance problems rather than serious food safety risks.
