3-Year-Old Killed After Shooting Self In Memphis: Report

The 3-year-old got hold of an unsecured, loaded AR-15 while the mother and the owner of the gun were out getting food, police said.

MEMPHIS, TN — A 3-year-old boy died from injuries sustained by a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he found an unsecured, loaded AR-15 in his mother's bedroom Sunday in Memphis, according to a report from FOX 13 Memphis.

Police arrested the mother, Tinesha Jackson, and her friend and owner of the gun, Tedrick Butler, after the shooting. The gun was left on a box covered with clothes while Jackson and Butler were out of the Whitehaven home getting food, according to the report.

Butler is charged with negligent homicide, felon in possession of a handgun and possession of a controlled substance, among other crimes, and Jackson is charged with negligent homicide, according to the report.
