Today's riddle: Why did the fish blush ? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Fuel prices surge: What Memphis drivers are paying at the pump (localmemphis.com) — Memphis drivers are facing sharply higher fuel costs this Labor Day weekend, with regular gas averaging $3.79 and diesel $5.62 per gallon in the city. Locals describe fill‑ups that now cost triple what they once did, while AAA links the spike to expensive crude oil and says record diesel prices could push up the cost of everyday goods.
2. Man critically injured in shooting outside Memphis police station, woman detained (wreg.com) — A man is in critical condition after being shot Sunday afternoon outside a Memphis police station on Austin Peay Highway, in what investigators believe was an isolated incident involving a couple. Memphis Police say the woman suspected of shooting him fled but was later detained, and they plan to release more details as the investigation continues.
3. THE WEEK AHEAD: Dry Start Before Spotty Rain Chances (09/07-13/2026) (actionnews5.com) — Memphis kicks off Labor Day with hot but slightly less muggy weather, then stays in the mid‑ to upper‑90s all week with heat indices back in the 100s by midweek. Only spotty showers are expected late week, so drought conditions may worsen through September despite a brief chance for some much‑needed rain.
4. Memphis Zoo welcomes two Sumatran tiger cubs, needs help naming them (wreg.com) — Memphis Zoo has welcomed two endangered Sumatran tiger cubs, and you can help choose their names through an online vote open until Sept. 15. The cubs, born Aug. 12, are healthy, staying behind the scenes with mom Dari, and will debut to visitors in the coming months while fans follow their growth via photos, videos, and the Cub Cam.
5. Trial date set for woman charged in death of Project Pat's son (localmemphis.com) — A Memphis trial is set for September 21 for 19-year-old Talia Jones, who's charged with facilitation of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Pat Houston Jr., son of local rapper Project Pat. Jones, arrested in Minnesota after a months-long search, will first appear in Shelby County court on September 10 for a report date.
