New Memphis Speakeasy Seeks Beer Permit (whatnow.com) — A new bar called Lou's Speakeasy is seeking a beer permit for 525 South Main Street, with its application on the City of Memphis Alcohol Commission's October 7 agenda. The proposed spot would feature a lounge, food service, and an outdoor patio, adding another speakeasy-style option to Downtown nightlife if approved.
2. Memphis trolley service could resume by December (wreg.com) — Memphis officials are aiming to restart downtown trolley service by December 15 after a two-year suspension caused by budget problems and brake repairs. Mayor Paul Young says restoring the iconic trolleys will strengthen downtown as a hub, improve connections for residents and visitors, and help position the city for future investment, with four cars planned on Main Street.
3. Memphis honors 59 fallen firefighters (wreg.com) — Memphis residents and firefighters gathered Sunday at the Fire Museum of Memphis to honor 59 colleagues who died in the line of duty, including those lost in recent years. Families placed red roses at the memorial wall outside historic Fire Engine House Number One, reflecting on the courage and community impact of loved ones who served the city.
4. UT Martin, Cecil C. Humphreys School Of Law Sign Legal Studies Agreement (radionwtn.com) — Prospective law students in Memphis should know that UT Martin and the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law have created a 3+3 program that shaves a year off earning both degrees. Qualified UT Martin undergrads can spend their fourth year at Memphis Law, transferring credits back to finish their bachelor's while beginning their juris doctor.
5. Historic photos reveal Elvis Presley's life in Memphis (commercialappeal.com) — A rich collection of historic photos traces Elvis Presley's life and career through familiar Memphis backdrops, from Graceland and Union Station to Mid-South Coliseum and Beale Street shops. Longtime residents will recognize local landmarks, big concerts, charity events, and everyday moments that show how deeply the city shaped the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
