1. Tropical Storm Isaias on path to impact Memphis. See latest hurricane track (commercialappeal.com) — Memphis is in line for 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain this weekend from Tropical Storm Isaias, with the heaviest showers likely on Saturday, Oct. 10. Forecasters warn that, after weeks of drought, the area still faces a real risk of flash and urban flooding, especially near the Tennessee River, where totals could reach 3 to 4 inches.
2. For Memphis 10.06.26 (memphischamber.com) — Memphis residents are invited to share uplifting local stories with the chamber's "For Memphis" good-news project, highlighting achievements around town. Recent bright spots include a new Loren Roberts youth golf and learning center at The Links at Audubon, top honors for four early childhood teachers, and a Memphis brewery tour ranked among the world's best.
3. Community input sought on aquifer protection plan (actionnews5.com) — Memphis neighbors are being asked to share their experiences with dumping, flooding, and other issues to help shape a new groundwater protection plan. Local group Protect the Aquifer is gathering community input to refine contamination prevention and conservation steps aimed at safeguarding the city's prized drinking water for years to come.
4. Public Notice of Planning Retreat and Regular Business Meeting of the Volunteer Tennessee Commission (tn.gov) — A statewide Volunteer Tennessee Commission planning retreat and business meeting will be held in person at City Leadership on Concourse Avenue in Memphis later this month, with virtual access also available. Commissioners will revise the state service plan, adjust AmeriCorps funding timelines, elect 2027 officers, and take limited public comments from residents who register in advance.
5. 2026 Water Quality & Technology Conference Around the Corner – WC&P Online (wcponline.com) — One of the world's largest water treatment specialty conferences will bring researchers, utility leaders, and technology experts to the Renasant Convention Center in Memphis in mid-November. Attendees can dive into advanced treatment topics, emerging contaminants, and lead and copper issues, plus tour one of Memphis's historic pumping stations.
