1. UTHSC Breaks Ground on a $350 Million College of Medicine Building (wearememphis.com) — Construction has begun on a $350 million College of Medicine Interdisciplinary Building at UTHSC's Memphis campus, creating a new home for training future Memphis doctors. The state's largest higher-education capital project will allow larger medical and physician assistant classes, aiming to ease Tennessee's physician shortage when the building opens around 2029.
2. Local nonprofit designs student library and teacher's lounge for Grizzlies Prep (fox13memphis.com) — Grizzlies Prep students and teachers in downtown Memphis now have a new student library and a refreshed teachers' lounge, thanks to local nonprofit Design Besties. Leaders, including former Memphis Grizzlies player Elliot Perry, say the project strengthens support for reading, teacher well-being and future partnerships that could benefit families across the school community.
3. New Ice Cream Shop Scooping into Memphis (whatnow.com) — A new ice cream shop called Fruity Loopy is planning to open on Germantown Parkway, giving Memphis residents another spot for frozen treats. The 1,300-square-foot shop is awaiting a certificate of occupancy from the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development, with details and an opening date still to come.
4. Memphis lawmaker barred from next two city council meetings (actionnews5.com) — Memphis residents should know that State Rep. Justin Pearson has been barred from the next two Memphis City Council meetings following protests over a delayed vote on a data center moratorium. City officials say multiple people received similar letters, while Pearson and a local activist argue the move is politically motivated and limits residents' ability to be heard at City Hall.
5. Bailey: Memphis Motorsports Park still looks the same after unfulfilled hopes of a rebirth (dailymemphian.com) — Plans to revive Memphis Motorsports Park near Millington have stalled, with the once-promising drag strip now back on the auction block instead of roaring back to life. Locals who hoped for renewed racing and economic activity are left with an unchanged, dormant facility and lingering questions about what comes next for the high-profile property.
