Drug Packages Valued At $679,000 Seized At Border

The drug packages allegedly containing meth were seized from the car of a 37-year-old Mexican man.

LAREDO, TX — Packages containing 34 pounds of what is believed to be meth were seized from the vehicle of a Mexican citizen at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge. The drugs, which have an estimated value of $679,000, were intercepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers Monday, CBP reported.

The drugs were taken from a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 37-year-old Mexican man who lives in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. After conducting a secondary examination and using a CBP canine, CBP officers discovered 23 packages containing 34 pounds of narcotics.

“This significant seizure was possible because of the continued vigilance and alertness our CBP officers’ put forth on a daily basis,” port director Albert Flores said in the CBP news release. The Mexican man was arrested and the case is being handled by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations, CBP added.
