High Number Of Hate Crimes Reported In Texas In 2017
The states with the most reported hate crimes in 2017 were California and New York.

Texas law enforcement agencies reported 190 hate crimes in 2017, the 12th most in the country, according to a report released by the FBI Tuesday. The data was compiled from 1,009 Texas agencies covering more than 28 million Texans, the FBI stated. At the top of the list was California with 1,094 incidents reported and New York with 552.
In total, there were 7,106 single-bias incidents involving 8,493 victims around the country. The following is a breakdown of the victims bias type.
- 59.6 percent of victims were targeted because of the offenders’ race/ethnicity/ancestry bias
- 20.6 percent were targeted because of the offenders’ religious bias
- 15.8 percent were victimized because of the offenders’ sexual-orientation bias
- 1.9 percent were victimized because of the offenders’ disability bias
- 1.6 percent were targeted because of the offenders’ gender identity bias
- 0.6 percent were victimized because of the offenders’ gender bias
The FBI data also shows how most hate crime incidents in the (27.5 percent) occurred in or near residence or home while 17 percent occurred on roads or sidewalks. Of the 6,370 known offenders, 50.7 percent were white and 21.3 percent were black, the FBI added.
