Armed Houston Man Planned To Fulfill Prophecy At Texas Church

A witness and an off-duty officer may have averted tragedy after they stopped an armed man on his way to fulfill prophecy, police said.

SEGUIN, TX — A Houston man who was seen wearing tactical gear, and carrying a loaded weapon as he walked through the streets of Seguin on Sunday morning was apparently on his way to church to carry out a prophecy, officials said.

Tony Albert, 33, is in the Guadalupe County Jail in Seguin and is charged with possession of marijuana and felony possession of a firearm. He is being held on $100,000 bond.

Police were called to the 2200 block of West Kingsbury Street after a witness reported seeing an oddly dressed man, officials said.

An off-duty Seguin police officer who was the first on the scene, said Albert who was wearing tactical gear and a surgical mask, was walking toward the city. The officer said said Albert told her he was on his way to church to fulfill a prophecy.

Officials in Seguin told the Seguin Gazette that Albert seemed to be unaware of where he was, and don't think any specific church in the city was targeted.

"I don't know what ties he has in Seguin or why he's here but he is not from Seguin," Seguin Police spokesperson Tanya Brown said. "My understanding is that he thought he was in a different city."

The Seguin Police Department and members of the FBI, ATF and Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
