National Guardsman Accused Of Sexual Assault Near Border

Luis Carlos Ontiveros and the victim were deployed to the border as part of President Donald Trump's call for more security.

BREWSTER COUNTY, TX -- A 30-year-old Texas National Guard member in West Texas has been charged with sexual assault stemming from an incident Monday. Luis Carlos Ontiveros was deployed to the Mexico border following President Donald Trump's call for more security.

"The combination of illegal drugs, dangerous gang activity, and extensive illegal immigration not only threatens our safety but also undermines the rule of law. Our American way of life hinges on our ability as a Nation to adequately and effectively enforce our laws and protect our borders," Trump penned on April 4.

Ontiveros was arrested Monday at about 4:10 a.m. at America's Best Value Inn in Alpine, the Daily Beast reported. Ontiveros was allegedly intoxicated when he escorted a fellow National Guard member to her hotel room. After the woman laid down in her bed, Ontiveros allegedly removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her. After the assault, the woman ran naked to another hotel room to seek help, CBS7 reported.
