Texas Named Nation's No. 18 Most Stressed State

The Lone Star State ranked No. 4 overall for most hours worked on average.

Stress comes in many forms, and it affects us each in unique ways. Some people's stressors lead to anxiety symptoms while others may cause even more serious physical symptoms like ulcers or eczema.

And as far as Texas goes, we're more stressed than 33 other states.

A new study from WalletHub took a look at key factors of stress including average hours worked per week, personal bankruptcy rate and share of adults getting adequate sleep and found that Texas landed in the No. 18 spot among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

While Texas landed near the middle in terms of overall stress, it ranked No. 4 in the nation for most hours worked per week and No. 39 overall for job security.

By category, the state was all over the map in terms of stress-inducing factors.

  • 15th ­– % of Adults in Fair/Poor Health
  • 39th – Job Security
  • 7th – Median Credit Score
  • 33rd – Housing Affordability
  • 14th – % of Population Living Below Poverty Line
  • 26th – Divorce Rate
  • 16th – Crime Rate per Capita
  • 11th – Psychologists per Capita
