• Ross Fire efforts to focus on Possum Kingdom Lake area Thursday, officials say (star-telegram.com) — North Texas crews, including the Arlington Fire Department, are battling the massive Ross Fire west of Fort Worth, which has burned about 80,000 acres and is 12% contained. Firefighters are concentrating on protecting communities near Possum Kingdom Lake, while utilities work to restore power and officials urge drivers to watch for heavy emergency traffic in the area.
   

• James Horton named Fort Worth's interim fire chief (fortworthbusiness.com) — Fort Worth has tapped longtime Assistant Fire Chief James Horton as interim fire chief, bringing nearly three decades of big-city fire and EMS experience to the role. Horton, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington, will lead the department while the city conducts a nationwide search for a permanent chief and builds on recent expansions in stations and staffing.
   

• Victory Park streets to be shut down for five days during Trump's convention (dallasnews.com) — Arlington police will help Dallas and federal agencies secure President Trump's upcoming two-day Republican convention at the American Airlines Center, which will close key Victory Park streets and DART's Victory Station for several days. While most disruptions are centered in Dallas, Arlington residents working or traveling through the area should expect heavy security, possible additional closures, and large demonstrations around the event.
