1. Knife-Wielding Man Fatally Shot by Arlington Police During Suicidal Person Call (irvingweekly.com) — Arlington police fatally shot a 56-year-old man armed with a knife during a suicidal person call Thursday night at a home on W. Lovers Lane near S. Fielder Road. Officers removed a family member from danger before one officer fired after repeated commands to drop the knife. The man later died at the hospital, no one else was injured, and multiple investigations are now underway.

2. Shelter pup finds family, job at Texas utility (awwa.org) — Arlington Water Utilities has adopted Splash, a former shelter puppy trained to sniff out underground water leaks, helping the city conserve water and improve maintenance. Working with handler Richard Everhart, Splash pinpoints problem spots after satellite mapping flags possible issues, then doubles as a local celebrity who sparks conversations about water conservation across Arlington neighborhoods.

3. Chinese Baptists hold biennial meeting at SWBTS (baptistpress.com) — Chinese Baptist churches from across North America recently gathered at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, with worship led in part by the Arlington Chinese Church team and music from Arlington Chinese Bible Church. Local Arlington congregations helped anchor a four-day conference focused on missions, leadership and fellowship, giving area Chinese Baptists a prominent role in a major continental gathering.

4. As Fort Worth sludge site dries up, birders express concern for wildlife, loss of habitat (fortworthreport.org) — Birders and biologists with ties to UT Arlington are worried that Fort Worth's Village Creek Drying Beds, once a premier birding spot, are drying up after an Arlington transmission line oil leak and operational changes halted pumped-in water. With public access restricted and ponds turning to vegetation, they fear North Texas will lose a key migratory bird habitat along the Central Flyway.
