UTA awarded $5.8M in federal TRIO grants - News Center - The University of Texas at Arlington (uta.edu) — New federal TRIO grants will bring $5.8 million to support Arlington ISD students and local adults seeking education and career advancement, including services at Arlington and Sam Houston high schools and two junior highs. Over the next five years, UTA will offer advising, tutoring, financial aid help, and workforce guidance to about 1,200 students annually plus many adults in Tarrant and Dallas counties.
2. Free Shakespeare LIVE Renfest set for Oct. 31 (cw33.com) — A free Shakespeare-themed Renaissance festival is coming to Levitt Pavilion in downtown Arlington on Saturday, Oct. 31, running from noon to 6 p.m. with a free evening performance of Macbeth. Expect live entertainment, artisan vendors, food trucks, and family-friendly activities, with organizers encouraging costumes and highlighting several local sponsors and businesses.
3. Record-Breaking Fundraising Elevates UTA Athletics (utamavs.com) — UTA Athletics in Arlington has nearly quadrupled its fundraising since 2022–23, bringing in close to $9 million over the last 18 months. The surge, highlighted by the Maverick Blueprint event, will bolster student-athlete nutrition, facilities, scholarships, and competitiveness in the evolving NIL and revenue-sharing landscape, strengthening the university's sports presence in the community.
4. Shock, concern at University of Texas at Arlington after 2 sexual assault reports (cbsnews.com) — Students at the University of Texas at Arlington are reacting with concern after campus police reported two alleged sexual assaults in West Hall that occurred about three weeks ago. UTA says it is supporting those affected, while Arlington nonprofit The Archway stresses that many such incidents go unreported and students worry delayed, limited information may discourage future reporting.
5. Barbara Horton Smith - (arkadelphian.com) — Friends and family in Arlington are among those mourning Barbara Horton Smith, a devoted mother and grandmother who recently passed away in Grand Prairie. Remembered for her warm smile, deep faith, and decades-long career at Boeing, she leaves behind children in Mansfield, Grand Prairie, and Arlington, along with six grandchildren and extended family across Texas and Arkansas.
