Santa Claus is coming to Houston, and he's bringing his running shoes! Houston Running Company's (HRC) 12K of Christmas is sleighing its way back for a 14th year, bringing festive fun, hot cocoa and charitable giving to Sam Houston Park (1000 Bagby Street) on Saturday, December 19. This year's event will support three local nonprofit organizations, and make every stride count toward a good cause. It's shaping up to be a jolly good way to kick off the season, as runners, walkers and families lace up to deck the trails and celebrate the holidays together.

Holiday tunes and vibrant community spirit will fill the morning air. Adaptive athletes - individuals with physical, visual or intellectual disabilities - will start at 7:27 a.m., followed by the 6K and 12K races at 7:30 a.m., an awards presentation at 8:45 a.m. and the Kids & Family 1K at 9:15 a.m.

This event serves as the grand finale and ninth stop of Houston Running Company's Holiday Series.

"This event is about bringing people together, celebrating the holiday season, and giving back to our community," said HRC Co-Founder Randi Schooley. "We're proud to support three local nonprofit organizations while creating an inclusive event where runners and walkers of all ages and abilities - including adaptive athletes - can participate and feel part of the celebration."

Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, the top three masters (40+) overall male and female finishers, and first place age group winners. Age Group Awards can be claimed at the awards tent from 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. on race day.

Event proceeds will benefit three remarkable nonprofits: Ainsley's Angels Southeast Texas, which promotes inclusion in endurance events for individuals with disabilities, The Asher House Animal Sanctuary, dedicated to rescuing and rehoming animals in need, and LifeGift Organ Donation, which supports the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
