The City of Arlington's new East Library and Recreation Center combines two of residents' favorite amenities. The state-of-the-art building officially opened in November 2020, replacing the Hugh Smith Recreation Center and East Branch Library. Design plans called for the Hugh Smith Rec Center to be demolished and turned into additional green space at Bob Cooke Park.

In the latest On the Clock, Arlington City Manager Trey Yelverton joined the demolition crew to help get the job done.

He was given a tutorial on the equipment before getting behind the controls. Once inside, it took just seconds for a section of the roof and walls to come down.

The building was demolished in sections with the building materials later recycled.
