Arlington Library Plans To Reopen Southwest, Woodland West Branch Libraries On June 15, 2020

Library staff will continue following guidance from it's Fire Department and the Public Health Authority to provide a safe environment.

Our Southwest and Woodland West Branches will reopen to the public at a 50 percent occupancy load on Monday, June 15, 2020.

This occupancy load increase will also apply to our East Arlington, Southeast, Northeast, and Lake Arlington Branches. In-person service will be available Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at these Library locations.

As we transition reopening phases our service model will continue to change. Library staff will no longer implement an appointment-based model. Staff will now monitor walk-ins every hour to ensure a 50 percent occupancy load. Curbside pick up remains available at all locations Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The George W. Hawkes Library will remain closed but will continue to offer this service. The following in-person services will be available again at our reopened branches:

• Browsing books to check out
• Returning large items such as kits
• Public computer access (one hour per patron per day) for adults
• Free Wi-fi
• Copying, faxing and scanning
• Remote printing
• Newspapers

Some services will be limited during this phase of our reopening. To maintain safe distances between patrons and staff, the following will remain unavailable:

• Meeting and community rooms
• Help with computers or other technology including the fax and copy machines
• In-person events and programs
• Children's computers
• Children’s toys and other manipulatives
• Breaking large bills

Arlington Public Library staff will continue following guidance from the Arlington Fire Department and the City of Arlington Public Health Authority to provide a safe environment. High-touch surfaces will be cleaned multiple times each day. Clear plexiglass dividers have been installed at staff desks. To maintain a safe distance between people, furniture has been rearranged or put into temporary storage. Only a limited number of public computers will be available at once, with ample space between each station.
