The first Medal of Honor was awarded to Jacob Parrott on March 25, 1863. The day inspired Congressional leaders and President George H.W. Bush to establish "National Medal of Honor Day" in 1990. The observance is a way to honor all those who have received the Medal and to promote its values — courage and sacrifice, commitment and integrity, citizenship and patriotism.
The National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation is inviting Americans to mark the day with a series of observances.
