City Of Arlington And Housing Channel Commemorate Fair Housing Month

This year's message is, "Fair Housing is 'More than Words'."

The City of Arlington Office of Strategic Initiatives in partnership with Housing Channel, a leading housing non-profit organization, is commemorating Fair Housing Month in April with various activities and online educational resources.

Each April, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) along with cities and organizations across the country raise awareness of the Fair Housing Act which protects renters and home buyers from discrimination while getting a mortgage, seeking housing or other housing-related activities. This year’s message is, “Fair Housing is ‘More than Words’.”

The month-long activities include:

  • Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams and City Council Member Helen Moise kicked off the activities by presenting the Fair Housing Month proclamation at the April 13 City Council meeting.
  • Fair housing discussed in the April 13 HREBA internet radio broadcast, "Homeownership: Hear it From the Experts." Click here for a replay of the broadcast.
  • Wednesday, April 21: Watch an interview with Scherron Richard, MBA, Housing Subcommittee Chair, City of Arlington Unity Council Report. Richard will discuss findings on the State of Housing in Arlington. (The video will be shared to the City of Arlington's YouTube channel and included in this article after April 21.)
  • April 29: Housing Channel will host a panel Discussion on fair housing in our community with the Arlington Board of Realtors and local non-profits. Tune in to learn about issues and challenges these organizations and the people they serve have with fair housing, how to recognize and prevent discrimination and housing violations. The panel will be live-streamed on the Housing Channel's Facebook page.
