East Arlington Water Project Makes Way For Improvements

Arlington Water Utilities recently completed the construction of a 20-inch water distribution main along Craig Hanking Drive, near the new City of Arlington East Library and Recreation Center. The new utility infrastructure will support a future elevated water storage tank in East Arlington.

The project, which was approved by the Arlington City Council in June, added 650 feet of water main along Craig Hanking, from New York to Oak Point Drive. The cost was $225,610. Work started in October and took about a month and a half to complete.
Every year, Arlington Water Utilities provides billions of gallons of water to residents through more than 1,400 miles of water main. Peak performance of the water distribution system is essential to providing safe drinking water for all residents.

A date for the New York Avenue storage tank project has not been set.

Completion of the new water main also makes way for an Arlington Public Works and Transportation reclamation project which will replace the existing asphalt along Craig Hanking Drive. That project is expected to begin in 2021.
