A Ton Of Pet Food Helps Arlington Pet Owners In Need

Meals on Wheels clients in Arlington don’t have to worry about providing food for their dogs and cats thanks to a unique partnership with Arlington Animal Services.

More than 2,000 pounds, or 191 bags, of pet food was recently purchased with $2,500 grant awarded to the City of Arlington by Best Friends Animal Society through a Rachel Ray Save Them All COVID-19 Relief Grant.

Animal Services Manager Chris Huff’s partnership with Iris Bruton, the Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County client assistance manager, is helping dozens of Arlington pet parents care for their treasured furry family members during these unprecedented, trying times.

“During the pandemic, the community has generously donated to the shelter,” Huff said. “Thanks to the graciousness of Best Friends, the grant award is allowing the shelter to help more Arlington residents keep their pets safe at home.”

Meals on Wheels currently provides pet food donations for approximately 38 dogs and 18 cats belonging to clients in Arlington. With more people struggling financially during the pandemic, the nonprofit said it has seen a decrease in pet food donations. Arlington Animal Service’s partnership has helped Meals on Wheels restore its depleted supply of pet food in a great time of need.

Sharon Chrisco Weaver is among the grateful recipients of pet food the generous Best Friends Animal Society grant provided. Weaver has two dogs, Dollee and Rocko, who appear small, but “are large eaters,” she said.

The City of Arlington extends a special thank you to Best Friends Animal Society for its wonderful act of kindness to help our community.
