The unanimous move follows strong privacy concerns from locals and comes after half the city's cameras were already vandalized or covered. Any future license plate reader agreements are now prohibited by city policy.

State parks hosting ruck hikes for veterans (elgincourier.com) — Veterans and families in Bastrop can join special ruck hikes at Bastrop State Park throughout September, aimed at supporting mental health and suicide awareness. Participants are encouraged to bring water, snacks, and good hiking shoes, and can attend with or without a weighted pack. Thirteen funded groups specifically serve the Bastrop County area, offering help with mental health care, emergency financial assistance, housing, transportation, and more.
