📰 News we're reading

• Trader Joe's is expanding into five more Texas locations (wheninyourstate.com) — Bellaire residents can look forward to a new Trader Joe's planned for 5130 Bellaire Boulevard, reusing the former Randall's grocery site as part of a five-store Texas expansion. Construction is slated to start in December 2026 and wrap by March 2027, bringing another specialty grocery option closer to home even though an opening date isn't set yet.

• Poor Farm Ditch reconstruction begins to transform south site (communityimpact.com) — Work is moving ahead on reconstructing Poor Farm Ditch, the stormwater channel running between University Boulevard and Bellaire Boulevard, a key drainage corridor near Bellaire. Crews are widening and deepening the ditch, replacing worn concrete, and coordinating with Harris County Flood Control to boost capacity over about four years, which should help reduce flooding risks for nearby neighborhoods.

• Lone Star College System trustees OK tax rate for FY 2026-27 (communityimpact.com) — Bellaire homeowners within the Harris Central Appraisal District will see a slightly lower Lone Star College System tax rate this fiscal year, set at $0.1058 per $100 valuation. Even with the small rate decrease, LSCS expects to collect about $356 million in property tax revenue, roughly 2% more than last year, to support its operations across the region.
