📰 News we're reading

• Bellaire vs. Lamar high school football game canceled due to widespread staph infection, HISD says (abc13.com) — Bellaire High School's varsity football game against Lamar was canceled after Houston ISD confirmed a widespread staph infection affecting players in the Bellaire program, and the game will be recorded as a win over Lamar. District officials say symptom-free students can still attend school while Bellaire increases disinfection and keeps students with visible cuts out of athletics, urging parents to watch for signs of skin infection and contact healthcare providers promptly.

• HISD changed bus stops for magnet students. Some parents now drive miles just to reach the bus (click2houston.com) — Houston ISD's new hub-based busing system for magnet and school choice students is forcing some families to drive miles just to reach bus stops, including routes that cross busy stretches of Beechnut and Bellaire Boulevard before sunrise. Parents say the change has made mornings more stressful and less safe, while the district argues hubs shorten bus rides and offers hazardous-route reviews for those who complain.
