• Amarillo area, Panhandles under flood watch through Wednesday afternoon (amarillotribune.org) — Canyon and the surrounding Panhandle are under a flood watch through Wednesday, with forecasters warning of potentially historic rainfall and dangerous flooding in low-lying areas. Canyon is offering sandbags at the Canyon Area Library, while emergency officials share safety tips, contact numbers, and driving advice to help you prepare and decide whether to postpone travel.
   

• Parents of first-generation engineering student named WT Family of the Year (myhighplains.com) — West Texas A&M's Family Weekend in Canyon honored the parents of first-generation mechanical engineering student Jose Miguel Contreras Jr. as the university's 2026 Family of the Year. Their story highlights the sacrifices and long drives they make to support his education, alongside other families recognized and a full slate of campus activities that brought Buff families together.

  • For those who are want to know what this it is a 8 banded Armadillo and are very common in Amarillo/ Canyon and much of Texas.
    The 9 banded type of Armadillo is basically located in the Texas High Plains area and a few other states as well. (Nextdoor Canyon East)
