Cedar Park Boy Launches Socks Drive For The Needy
More than 250 pairs of socks were amassed after Christian Oviedo, 8, decided to pay it forward for medical help he's received.

CEDAR PARK, TX — This is what one might call a special delivery in the full extension of the phrase.
On Monday morning, volunteers with the local ministry Mobile Loaves & Fishes were scheduled to distribute socks and meals throughout Cedar Park. This isn't unusual for the group, which is well accustomed to performing works of altruism.
The source of the socks is what makes this charitable act special. Rather than asking for birthday presents earlier this year, eight-year-old Christian Oviedo asked for socks — not for him, mind you, but for needy people. As KXAN reported, the boy's friends and families delivered: More than 250 pairs of socks were ultimately collected.

Christian's mom, Yvette Oviedo, said the action was her son's way of paying it forward after receiving so help from the community himself. He was born with Vascular Ehlers-Danlos, a rare syndrome rendering his organs and arteries fragile, the mom told the news station.
Word of Christian's mission traveled far, with socks showing up from as far away as Costa Rica and Japan, the news station reported. Some people abroad even sent extra care packages with shoes and toiletries.

"It feels incredible," Christian said when asked to summarize his feelings from the outpouring of support to his cause.
