Two Leander Swim Teams Recognized For Their Strong Finish At State Competition

The team placed third in recent UIL state competition.

LEANDER, TX -- School district board members recently recognized the girls swimming relay team at Cedar Park High School and the boys swimming team at Vandergrift High School.

The girls 200-meter relay team placed third at the UIL state competition.

Members of the team are Kristen Perron; Lauren Partridge; Victoria Sanankone; Bella Zapata; and Coach Dean Lackey.

Also recognized by board members was Vandegrift High School's boys swimming team, which earned a first-place finish at UIL state competition. Team members include Justin Balarbar; Zachary Bezella; Brian Donohue; Tucker Mathis; Andrew Pickard; Daniel Sarman; John Winkler; and Coach Kim Davies.

The VHS 200-freestyle relay team of Sarman, Pickard, Bezella and Winkler finished in first place while the VHS 200-medley relay team of Balarbar, Pickard, Bezella and Winkler finished in third place. Winkler also took home third-place finishes in both the 200- and 100-meter freestyle. Davis was named the 5A Coach of the Year.
