Cedar Park, Leander Among Safest Cities In Texas: Study

Overall, Leander ranked 26th safest among cities with more than 10,000 population, trailed by Cedar Park ranked 37th safest.

LEANDER, TX — Add this attribute to the many reasons to love Leander: It's one of the top 50 safest cities in Texas, according to a recent study.

It's the fourth year in a row that Leander has made the list of the safest cities with populations of more than 10,000, according to SafeWise.com. Overall, the city ranked as the 26th safest city in the state—an impressive showing but five spots lower than last year.

Key in the reckoning were the numbers of violent crimes per 1,000 population, coming in at a nearly negligible 1,38 instances in Leander. Violent crimes tabulated include aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery.

Property crimes also were low in Leander at 10.97 per 1,000. Such crimes include arson, burglary, larceny theft and motor vehicle theft.

Among the cities making the list, Leander was the highest ranked in Central Texas. Previously not ranked Georgetown came in 33rd. While Cedar Park ranked 37th, down just one notch from its last inclusion with 1.63 per 1,000 violent crimes and 13.73 per 1,000 property crimes.

Also in the region, Pflugerville snagged the 41st rank, down four spots from its last appearance. In that city, violent crimes per 1,000 were 1.35 while property crimes per 1,000 were 14.78.
