Cedar Park 'Movies In The Park' Set For This Friday

If you're looking for a family-friendly event to wrap up the week, consider taking the kiddos to MIlburn Park for a free movie.

CEDAR PARK, TX — Other than hoisting a few at the neighborhood pub, we can't think of a better way to end the week than seeing a movie. And what better way to engage in this activity then "Movies in the Park" among one's family members and neighbors — and it's a considerably more family-friendly pursuit than the aforementioned.

It's so Rockwellian, we can barely stand it.

So gather your blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the movie "Secret Life of Pets 2" scheduled Friday, Sept. 13, at 7:40 p.m. at Milburn Park, 1901 Sun Chase Blvd. But remember: Glass containers are strictly prohibited. You might also think about taking some mosquito repellent. Patch was sitting out on the porch the other night enjoying the cool, post-thunderstorm climate and was beset by those winged varmints.

Here's the best part of all: Admission is free! Okay, it'll be Friday the 13th, but that's offset by the delightful sight of a full moon. Plus, the National Weather Service is calling for nighttime temps of a pleasant 73 degrees under mostly clear skies with easterly winds between 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Just delightful climate, as if ordered by the chamber of commerce itself! Were he alive and visiting the area, Norman Rockwell would be surreptitiously setting up his easel off to the side to capture such an idyllic community tableau.

The website IMDb tells us that "The Secret Life of Pets 2" continues the story of Max and his pet friends, following their secretive routines after their owners leave them at home after heading for work or school each day. Kind of like the "Toy Story" franchise but involving pets. Directed by Chris Renaud with co-direction by Jonathan del Val featuring voice characterizations by such luminaries as Harrison Ford, Kevin Hart and Patton Oswalt.

Look, we'll be honest: We've never seen it. But it sounds delightful. And mark your calendar for Sept. 27, when the movie "Dumbo" about that lovable yet misunderstood pachyderm with the oversize ears is screened. Spoiler alert: Those are pretty special ears.
