Cedar Park Plans Local 'National Night Out' Observance
A kickoff block party of sorts is scheduled in advance at Heritage Oak Park, with food, music, petting zoo, bounce house, more family fun.

CEDAR PARK, TX -- City officials have disclosed the location for this year's community-wide observation of the annual National Night Out event designed to promote crime awareness.
The local 2016 National Night Out kick-off will be staged at Heritage Oak Park, 875 Quest Parkway, this coming Saturday (Sept. 24) from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature music; a petting zoo; climbing wall; bounce house; police helicopter; McGruff the crime-busting dog mascot; the National Night Out Knight; and players from the Texas Stars hockey and Austin Spurs basketball teams.
But wait, there's more: Food and drink will be on hand and "lots of fun," city officials said.

The actual dates for the national observance -- during which more than 35 million people throughout 11,000-plus neighborhoods nationwide are expected to gather -- is Oct. 4, officials noted.
"We invite you to hold a neighborhood or business National Night Out Party from 6-9 p.m. in your neck of the woods," city officials wrote in a community advisory, referencing the Oct. 4 observance. "You can make it official by registering your event with us. Simply complete the 2016 National Night Out Party Registration Form and mail it or email it by September 23rd.

Officials added that there is no cost to either register or participate.
