Cedar Park Police To Launch Labor Day DWI Initiative
To keep people safe on the roadways, officers will be on bolstered patrol on lookout for drunk drivers through Monday, Sept. 2.
CEDAR PARK, TX — The Cedar Park Police Department will be conducting a crackdown on drunken driving over the Labor Day weekend, officials said on Friday.
The initiative is designed to keep the roads safe to discourage reduce and enforce driving while intoxicated (DWI) violations. The initiative will be conducted from Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 to Monday, Sept. 2.
"Labor Day weekend traditionally results in heavy traffic volumes throughout the state, which can lead to increased accidents, serious injuries and fatalities," police wrote in a press advisory in explaining the bolstered enforcement. "We want to remind everyone to make the responsible choice not to drive if they are impaired in any way."

Area law enforcement agencies typically increase their patrols during days of increased congestion of alcohol such as holidays. "The Cedar Park Police Department is focused on saving lives and making roadways safe for everyone through education and enforcement," police said. "Our goal is for drivers to get the message that driving impaired will never be tolerated."
In driving drunk, motorists risk the chance of having to shell out thousands of dollars in fines and suspension of driving privileges at best or their death or those of potential victims at worst. "Don’t risk a DWI this Labor Day weekend," police said. "Drive sober or get pulled over."
