Cedar Park Police Netted Dozen-Plus DWI Offenders During 4th Of July Travel Period

Selective Traffic Enforcement Program June 24 to July 5 featured bolstered police patrol to root out impaired drivers on city roads.

CEDAR PARK, TX — Police made more than a dozen DWI arrests during the Fourth of July celebration period as part of their bolstered patrolling to curb drunk driving, officials said.

From June 24 to July 5, the Cedar Park Police Department implemented its version of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) marked by heightened police activity in rooting out impaired drivers. Cities throughout Texas intermittently launch STEP periods of enforcement, usually during holidays when traffic is heaviest.

During the local STEP enforcement, police made 14 DWI arrests. Police noted they also arrested a minor for driving under the influence in addition to the 14 other detentions. The next Cedar Park STEP initiative is scheduled from Aug. 18 to Sept. 3, police said.
