Cedar Park Police Warn Of Phone Scam
The latest fraud to emerge is one in which fraudster calls residents while pretending to be officer while asking for personal information.
CEDAR PARK, TX — Police are warning residents to be vigilant against an emerging phone scam from a fraudster claiming to be an officer.
This appears to be a spoofing case mimicking the telephone number for the Cedar Park Police Department (512-260-4600) but with a different return number, police explained on Twitter. Police said the caller then asks for personal information, including birthdays and addresses.
Avoidance in becoming victimized by fraud is not difficult, police wrote on their social media platforms: "A strong reminder here: Do not give out any personal or financial information over the phone!" Cedar Park PD warned.
