Cedar Park Police Warn Residents of Diwali Thefts

After Cedar Park residents became targets of burglaries during Diwali last year, the police are reminding people to stay alert and report suspicious activity when the Hindu festival of lights begins Monday.

An email from Tara Long, a spokeswoman from the Cedar Park Police Department, states that in 2014 burglaries took place between late morning and early evening and involved breaking windows and doors and using back patio doors to gain entry into homes. Burglars focused on taking gift cards, cash, jewelry and gold objects.

The celebration of Diwali involves wearing silver and gold jewelry and displaying it throughout the home as a form of adornment.

Cedar Park is advising people to be aware of suspicious activity such as vehicles being parked in the same area for an extended period of time or repeatedly driving through an area in a small window of time.
