Cedar Park Prepares For National Night Out

Annual event meant to galvanize residents in solidarity against crime kicks off locally with a pair of major events this summer.

CEDAR PARK, TX — National Night Out may still be a month away, but Cedar Park has already begun to prepare for it.

"National Night Out is one of our favorite events because it is an opportunity for Cedar Park citizens, neighborhoods, businesses, civic groups, local officials, and law enforcement to host parties in pursuit of community safety," officials said on the municipal home page. "There is no better reason than that to have a get-together!"

To that end, the city has two events planned for next month:

  • The first event is the 2019 National Night Out Kick-Off Party scheduled on Saturday, July 27, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Heritage Oak Park, 875 Quest Parkway. The event will include music, a petting zoo, a climbing wall, a bounce house, the DPS Helicopter, McGruff, the National Night Out Knight, Texas Stars Hockey, Austin Spurs, food/drink and lots of fun. Everyone is welcome!
  • Following that, residents are invited to the National Night Out Party on Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. comprising various block parties in your neck of the woods. Celebrants can expect police officers to drop by for spontaneous meet-and-greet sessions.

Those wishing to officially register their National Night Out event are asked to fill out a form by Aug. 6. There is no cost to register or participate, officials added.

Cities across the country celebrate National Night Out by turning on their porch lights and getting together with neighbors with collegiality as an expression of solidarity against crime.
