Cedar Park Shooting: Brother Kills Brother, Woman On Life Support

Man inexplicably kills estranged brother and shoots his niece, who is now on life support and expected to pass away soon.

CEDAR PARK, TX — Police are investigating Saturday's shooting in Cedar Park that left two men dead and a woman injured as a murder-suicide case, and identified the victims and shooter on Monday.

The double shooting occurred at around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at 711 Dogwood Trail. Responding officers found two men shot to death and a woman with critical gunshot injuries. The woman was rushed to St. David's Round Rock Hospital where she is on life support and not expected to survive, police said in a press advisory.

The woman was identified as Hailey Michelle Reyes, 23, while the male victim was identified as John Michael Garcia, 45, of San Antonio who was reportedly visiting another sibling in Cedar Park. Police identified the suspected shooter as Elijah Jared Stone, 47, of Austin who was found dead from a single self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

It's unclear is what prompted the violence, the police spokesperson told Patch. The shooter had been estranged from the family for more than a decade before shooting the victims and then himself. Police currently are looking into what may have prompted Stone to go on his shooting rampage after such a long estrangement, including a search for clues at his apartment, the spokeswoman told Patch.

"Truth be told, a detective told me they may never know a motive," Inns told Patch. "This brother had been estranged from his brother for over ten years, which gives this an element of toughness in finding motive. They're trying to figure out why now, what triggered this. That's the biggest question mark right now, and may be the hardest piece of the puzzle."

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to defray funeral and medical costs for the family. At last check, the drive had raised $10,815 of a $25,000 goal.

"Yesterday Michael Garcia's life was taken far too soon," the campaign's organizer wrote on Sunday. "His daughter Hailey is currently fighting for her life at this time."

Garcia and his youngest daughter, Addison, had become well-known martial arts competitors in San Antonio, according to biographical information found on the page. Both were involved in Ohana wrestling and Marra Senki Jiu Jitsu, the organizer wrote. In addition to his youngest daughter, Garcia is survived by his wife, Lisa, the family friend wrote.
