Arrest Made In Fatal Cedar Park Shooting (Updated)

CEDAR PARK, TX — An arrest has been made in a fatal shooting over the weekend that left one man dead and another critically injured, Cedar Park police said on Tuesday.

Jose Ivan Aviles Loza, 26, was arrested Monday night at around 9 p.m. in the Houston area, and subsequently charged with murder. The charge comes after the shooting death of Fernandeo Chaparro Lopez, 22, on Aug. 3 at the intersection of East Whitestone and toll road 183A. The driver of the vehicle in which Lopez was found, Jose Arely Chaparro-Benitez, 43, continues to recover from life-threatening wounds.

Police earlier said the elder victim was uncle to the deceased younger man. The two victims were found at around 6 a.m. this past Saturday, police previously said.

The Houston Police Department and other surrounding agencies assisted in the arrest, police said. "The investigation remains active and ongoing at this time," police added.

CEDAR PARK, TX — Police on Sunday identified the victims of a Cedar Park shooting this weekend that left one dead.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the intersection of East Whitestone and toll road 183A. When police arrived to the scene at around 6 a.m. on Saturday, they found a passenger in his 20s dead and a man in his 40s, the driver, with critical injuries.

By early Sunday afternoon, police identified the dead shooting victim as Fernando Chaparro Lopez, 22. The driver and victim’s uncle, Jose Arely Chaparro-Benitez, 43, is recovering from wounds deemed life-threatening at a local hospital, police said in a press advisory.

"At this point, the investigation leads us to believe the suspect(s) and deceased passenger were known to each other," police wrote. "This was not a random act of violence and there does not appear to be an ongoing threat to the general public."

CEDAR PARK, TX — A shooting in Cedar Park on Saturday morning left one man dead and another with life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at around 6 a.m. when officers were called to the intersection of East Whitestone and toll road 183A. Once there, police found a Hispanic male passenger in his 20s dead inside a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 40s, was found with life-threatening injuries before being transported to a local hospital.

Police continue to search for a suspect, who fled the scene before officers arrived.
