Cedar Park Snags Economic Development Award

Texas Economic Development Council recognized city's success in landing new company headquarters that will create more than 220 jobs.

CEDAR PARK, TX — The Texas Economic Development Council recently presented Cedar Park an award in recognition of its success in luring a company headquarters to the city.

Presentation of the Community Economic Development Award was made on Oct. 10 at the TEDC’s Annual Conference in San Antonio. The Community Economic Development Award program recognizes exceptional contributions of TEDC member cities toward the economic vitality of their communities and the state of Texas through creativity, leadership, and partnership in the achievement of business retention, business recruitment and community improvement.

The CEDA committee received 25 applications this year. Nominees were judged on five criteria: Innovation; so-called transferability; community commitment and leverage; measured objectives; and secondary benefits. The city won the CEDA Award in the population 50,001 to 100,000 category.

The City of Cedar Park won the award particularly for its work to entice Hyliion to relocate its headquarters to Cedar Park, officials said in a press advisory. Hyliion is a clean energy, hybrid tractor-trailer technology company that started in Pennsylvania. Hyliion this year relocated to the Brushy Creek Corporate Center in Cedar Park, where it occupies 80,000 square feet of space. At full operation, officials said, Hyliion will create 229 jobs with an estimated annual payroll of approximately $20.6 million in Cedar Park.

“Our staff, council, and 4A board did a great job attracting Hyliion’s headquarters from Pennsylvania to Cedar Park," Cedar Park Mayor Corbin Van Arsdale said in a prepared statement. "They’re a great business doing cutting-edge technology, and we’re excited to have them. Our staff are well-deserving of this award.”
