Cedar Park Teacher Quits Amid Inappropriate Student Relationship Investigation

Unnamed Vista Ridge High School assistant band director had been accused of inappropriate relationship in 2012 at Round Rock High School.

CEDAR PARK, TX — An assistant band director has resigned from his Vista Ridge High School job after Round Rock administrators investigated allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with a student in 2012 while working at Round Rock High School, according to a published report.

Officials at both the Round Rock and Leander school districts confirmed the report, according to the Austin American-Statesman. Yet even while acknowledging the accused instructor's status, neither district disclosed the name of the employee or the nature of the relationship.

Round Rock school district officials said they learned of the relationship earlier this month, according to the newspaper. They have since contacted local law enforcement and the Texas State Board of Educator Certification, officials added. The assistant band director is said to have left Round Rock High at the end of the school year in 2016 before beginning to work at Vista Ridge High School, according to school district officials.

Round Rock officials then notified Leander officials of the investigation on Oct. 11, according to the report. Vista Ridge High officials are said to have "...immediately removed the employee from the school and conducted an investigation,” school Principal Paul Johnson wrote Tuesday in a letter sent to students' parents and guardians.
