1. Looking to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day? There are several events happening today in Central Texas, including Leander's first MLK Day Parade and Street Festival in Old Town Leander. This free event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes a community parade, festival, marketplace, and live performances. According to city officials, the theme of the event is "Community Unity – Bright & Bold." (KXAN.com)
2. Over the last week, multiple construction projects and business openings have been announced in the Cedar Park-Leander area. The city of Cedar Park announced that the first phase of Lakeline Park, a 200-acre park that will include trails, a fishing pier, sports fields, pavilions, and more, is scheduled to open in summer 2022. Cedar Park will also be getting an Amy's Ice Creams location this spring, and Leander will soon see vertical construction begin at Northline, a 116-acre mixed-use development between US 183 and 183A Toll. 3. Leander has made OpenDoor's list of one of Texas's hottest zip codes. From 2010 to 2020, the population of Leander has skyrocketed 123 percent. According to an OpenDoor spokesperson, Leander has benefitted from job growth, newer homes, highly-rated schools, big-box stores, and restaurants. "Leander … offers residents a smaller-town charm while only being about 30 miles outside of the hustle and bustle of Austin," said Chris Westrom of OpenDoor. (CultureMap Dallas)
