Greg Kelley Exonerated Of Child Sex Assault Charges
A judge in Williamson County declared Greg Kelley innocent of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy.
CEDAR PARK, TX – A judge in Williamson County has declared a central Texas man innocent of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy, according to reports. Greg Kelley was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2014.
“I declare you innocent, and you are fully exonerated,” District Judge Donna King said from the bench on Wednesday, as reported by The Austin-American Statesman.
According to The Statesman, following the judge’s dismissal, the courtroom erupted in applause. Kelley then embraced his family while wiping back tears.

"To the victim and his family, I'm absolutely sorry you have to go through this. Believe me, your opinion matters,” Kelley said, as reported by KVUE. “For six years, I not only had to prove to the state I didn't do this, but I had to prove to you that I didn't do this."
"The justice system failed me and you,” he said.

Kelley, a former football player for Leander High School, was initially convicted on a charge of super-aggravated assault of a child at an in-home daycare center where was was temporarily living.
The Texas Rangers, however, found that the Cedar Park Police Department failed to thoroughly investigate the case, and other suspects weren't thoroughly investigated before Kelley was named the suspect in the case. Kelley was released from prison earlier this month in the wake of an appeals court overturning his conviction.
According to KVUE-TV, Kelley’s case was sent back to Williamson County, however, District Attorney Shawn Dick indicated that he has no plans to move forward with the case.
